Jammu, September 21: 2nd Ashok Sodhi Memorial Awards for Best Photography 2016 were announced on Wednesday by the four member jury constituted by the Press Club of Jammu.
Sanjeev Magotra, lensman State Times was awarded first prize by the jury. Sanjeev had beatifully captured the image of monkeys drinking water.
Raman Raina of The Shadow won the second prize while Inderjeet Singh of The Tribune was awarded third prize in a simple ceremony.
Senior journalists SP Sharma, Manu Srivats,Ena Sodhi, daughter of photo journalist Late Ashok Sodhi, his family members and executive members of the Press Club of Jammu were present on the occasion.
Students of Central University of Jammu and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), also attended the programme.
The photo competition was judged by the four member jury headed by Raju Kerni, Bureau Chief, Zee News Bureau, Jammu, Mohd Tauseef Mustafa, Staff Photographer, AFP, Srinagar - Jury Member, Channi Anand, Staff Photographer, AP, Jammu - Jury Member, Shib Narayan Acharya, Photographic Officer, PRO, MoD - Jury Member
A total number of 25 entries were received by the screening committee.
Before the award ceremony SN Acharaya, Jury Member presented the report of the screening committee on behalf of the Chairman of the committee.
The awards were presented by President of the Press Club, Ashwani Kumar, and Secretary General Zorawar Singh Jamwal along with Jury members.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Aman Sharma, Greater Jammu, Sarjna Rai, IIMC, Mohd Ali, Student, Sewa Ram, and Photojournalist, Earth News
Special mention awards were presented to three entries of Randeep Kumar, CUJ, Shivang Anand, Student, Shilpa Thakur.
Speaking on the occasion President Press Club of Jammu Ashwani Kumar first of all congratulated all the winners and motivated budding photo journalists to improve their photography skills.
Secretary General Zorawar Singh Jamwal said Press Club of Jammu is planning to invite applications at the national level from next year. He also advised young photographers to spend time in the field to capture variety of subjects and highlight public centric issues through their powerful lens.
